Good Afternoon,
First of all, I would like to thank Primer Magazine for adding The Young Gentleman to their dispatch. What an honor to be on the same list as all of the other blogs that I personally read. For those of you who haven't read Primer, it is a must. What a fantastic group of articles that are both fun and relevant (relevancy is sometimes hard to come by in the blogging community).
So you will see that this post is called Hat Tips, I started a new series where every Sunday I will be posting my recommendations, be it clothing, internet sites, books, what ever, just products that I endorse as worthy of tipping my hat to.
Today's theme is education
The Moth: True Stories Told Live
Podcasts
@MothStories
The Moth podcasts area a collection of stories by real people. In those 15 minutes you learn about their life and become inspired in your own life. Each person who speaks is unique, they all guide you down a path of self exploration and you wind up falling in love with them. I started listening to them on Stitcher (which if you do not have is a must download) and was depressed when I ran out of podcasts. I get captivated once these start. If you don't have the time to scroll through it now, at least listen to this one: Tricia Rose Burt: How to Draw a Nekkid Man
Ted Talks: Alice Dreger
Is Anatomy Destiny?
Alice Dreger is the former co-director of the Intersex Society of North America and a historian by trade. Her TED Talk discusses how we react to our biological sex and what happens when our sex is different than what it may appear to be. At the heart of her talk is how blurred the continuum is between males and females. The talk also makes us question why we use sex as the determinant factor of gender. A really thought provoking video and important for those who take interest in this blog because calling yourself a gentleman is an expression of your gender. Does it also have to express your sex?
Stuff You Should Know
The Podcast RSS but I listen on Stitcher
@SYSKPodcast
I can not express how amazing the two hosts of this show are. Both Josh and Chuck are brilliant and hysterical. The great part about this show is that you learn so much about everything from shrunken heads to The Principality of Sealand! The terrible part of this show is that you will not shut up! It's one of those things where you have to tell everyone what you just learned. These guys have such a great job and do amazing research. I always look forward to their new topics. Perhaps even a future one on the history of gentlemen and the modern gentleman?? That would be pretty amazing.
Do you have a product I should know about? Send it in or comment and get it on Hat Tips.
